HISTORY

HMS Furious started life as a "Large Light Cruiser" and was completed with two 18 inch guns to use for shore bombardment in a proposed plan to attack Germany by launching a sea landing on the north German coast and attacking Berlin. This plan fizzled out and it was decided to try aviation experiments on her. This eventually led to the removal of the 18 inch guns with a takeoff deck forward of the bridge and a landing area aft of the funnel, these were connected by ramps.
Thoroughly modernised in the late 20's and again in the 30's she played an important role in Home waters and the Med during WW2.
Scrapped 1948.

She made three notable world first's;

The first ship to be completed with 18 inch guns.
The first carrier to perform deck landings as well as takeoff's.
The first night takeoffs and landings.

While not the first carrier built or the first ship to fly aircraft, she set the standard for every carrier of all nationalities that followed upto the present day.

THE MODEL

This multi-res model represents her as she was during the closing stages of WW1 in 1918.
The arrestor cables (4) will bring you to a comfortable stop before you hit the rope barrier.
You may use the taxi-ramps to gain access to the takeoff area, BUT, you MUST fold your wings and restore your tailhook to its UP position.
The model is of accurate proportions and there isn't any problem taking off with a fully loaded aircraft of the period.
The LSO has been set to -3000 metres and surprisingly is quite accurate.

LANDING

From the appearance of the LSO.
1 Lower Hook.
2 Aim for the white smoke on the funnel, reduce your throttle to 50%.
3 Follow the LSO instructions and reduce your throttle to 30% (about 55knots) as you get nearer.
4 When about 200 metres from the stern, cut the throttle to 0% and aim for the first pair of white lines on the landing platform.
5 Pray.
