Texturing and Design

The Stupid Idiots' Guide to starting with gMax This is a work in progress. I'm trying to get this out to the community to fill a hole I see: gMax is so bloody hard when you first start playing with it that I think a lot of guys give up. I want to get those beginners started because of a theory of mine: More designers = more & better airplanes. So if you're a biginner to gMax, come on in for a visit!

Repainting Textures with Paint Shop Pro This is the readme for the *.psp source files for our P-38L-5-LO (that can be downloaded in our CFS2 Section) and describes the "Layering" technique. There is some good info here if you don't want to D/L the PSP files themselves.

Drawing Rivets and Lines with Paint Shop Pro A technique of making Rivets and Lines using Paint Shop Pro. Using the "Layering" technique, repaints can be quickly produced once the first is done.

Navigation

How To Navigate in CFS with the Gryphon Navigation Window by Marv Howell. This exercise walks you through the use of all the Navigation Aids (GPS, NDB, and Autopilot) in a flight from Port Moresby to Lae to Alexishafen and return to Port Moresby. You will need one of our CFS2) panels and Steve McClelland's "Pacific-Far East Scenery" which adds NDBs to the stock airfileds available at several places, including http://www.simviation.com.

Gryphon Kneeboard. The aircraft kneeboard is a MS feature in CFS2. You can add data to it to be accessed in flight by either cutting and pasting or typing in information. The word and the text document in this tutorial provide information on how to install and use the kneeboard. The Zip file also includes some text file lists of CFS 2 areas of interest. You may cut and paste anything from one list to the other to customize your kneeboard to suit your flying needs. Gryphon is also developing similar lists for the China-Burma-India and Viet Nam Theaters. They will be added as they are completed.

Tactics and History

"Battlefield Interdiction" From IMPACT, Vol. 2, No.11 November 1944. This article was puplished in IMPACT, Vol. 2, No.11, one of a series of pamphlets printed during the war by the USAAF and since declassified. It gives a good overview of the doctrine of Interdiction and how Air Power can be used to isolate the battlefield and set the stage for an offensive. The example used here is Operation Overlord (D-Day) and the Breakout.

"Achtung Jabos!" The Story of the IXth Tactial Air Command (TAC). Published during the war by the 9th TAC, this booklet was intended to record the history of the unit and also to brief incoming personnel on "what kind of a fighting team we are, and what an important part everyone on the team plays, even though he may not fly a Thunderbolt, a Lightning, or a Mustang..."
